Super Bunnyhop - Dragon Con Was More Fun Than Video Games
While the thumbnail and title may very much give the impression that this is just a video about Dragon Con, the video is actually a discussion about the recent controversy that has been going on in relation to gaming recently online (what has been referred to online as ‘Gamergate,’ now lets avoid that or any other ‘something-gate’ from now on here.) The connection between this and Dragon Con is that at Dragon Con there wasn’t the same sort of aggressive games discussion there as there was online.
I remember having a sort of similar experience at PAX Australia last year. At a panel with Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, creators of Penny Arcade, someone got up and asked “where are the haters?” (or at least something along those lines) pointing out that the convention has had little in conflict between attendees (beyond the conflict at least in the games they were playing.) If people had any problems it was most likely ever with how people felt that parts of the convention could have been done a bit better (that then would be taken as sort of early convention teething pain as this was the first PAX in Australia,) that the convention wasn’t hosted over in their preferred location or city, or that things were cold, ‘cause the convention was put on in July, which is the middle of winter here. The convention was a reminder that most gamers are not the loud, obnoxious, death threat spewing, jerks the appear online, but are actually people able to get along well with one another.
